About Superfrog

Superfrog Signs & Graphics was established in 1972 by Butch “Superfrog” Anton. Several years before that, in his senior year of college, he observed a sign painter hand lettering a grain truck at the local grain elevator. His curiosity aroused, he pursued hand lettering on his own, and learned to letter by the time he finished college. This desire to become a sign painter ruined his college career in that nothing else mattered, and sign painting became his life.

How We Got that Cool Name

Butch Anton became a Master Instructor for Scuba Diving at a very young age, and has since trained  over 2500 people around the world…thus the name “Superfrog”. The story is told that Butch already had a business card with Superfrog listed on it for his Scuba Instructor services when he started his own sign shop. Butch decided he did not need two cards, and decided to hand out the Superfrog card for his sign business, and the rest is history…

Superfrog Impact

In 1990, Butch was chosen to be an educator on the national sign show circuit. His status grew and he was asked to do shows all over the world, Europe, Canada, Australia, South America as well as the United States coast to coast. Butch has written countless articles for various industry magazines and has appeared in many educational videos. His innovative ideas changed the sign industry in many ways, the most obvious being the 3-tier pricing concept. He was known as Mr. Krylon for his introduction of Krylon aerosols sprayed to vinyl creating the Value Enhancement Concept. His refusal to wear a suit at any of the sign shows changed the dress code for all the vendors. Check out more of our Contributions

Superfrog Today - Continuing A Legacy

For decades, Superfrog Signs & Graphics has built a reputation for creativity, craftsmanship, innovation, and quality.

Much of that legacy was shaped by Butch, whose knowledge and experience earned him recognition throughout the sign industry. He was regularly called upon to test and evaluate new products and technologies—from paints and vinyl materials to sign software and digital printing equipment. Butch also shared his knowledge through industry publications and by teaching classes and workshops at major sign shows.

In 2021, Mike Hughes began working alongside Butch at Superfrog. During those years, Mike gained valuable hands-on experience while learning from Butch’s decades of knowledge in the sign industry. More importantly, he came to understand the craftsmanship, creativity, customer relationships, and pride behind the Superfrog name.

In 2025, Mike purchased Superfrog Signs & Graphics and began the next chapter in its story. Following Butch’s passing in September 2025, Mike is proud to carry forward the business and the legacy that Butch spent so many years building.

Today, Mike personally continues the tradition behind Superfrog Signs & Graphics while bringing his own ideas and vision for the future. From design and production to working directly with customers, he remains committed to the quality, creativity, and personal service that customers have come to expect from Superfrog.

For Mike, keeping Superfrog going is about more than continuing a business. It’s about honoring what Butch built, carrying forward the knowledge he shared, and preserving the reputation that was earned over decades—while continuing to grow, evolve, and write the next chapter of the Superfrog story.
